Greetings wonderful bird friends! Some of you may have already met Yuki, a juvenile homing pigeon currently residing with us at the WBRT hospital. Isn’t she gorgeous? ❤ 🕊
Yuki is a bit of a rowdy teenager at the moment, but with love and attention she will soon become a lovable and loving pet for the right person! Although we don’t know Yuki’s story, she’s likely the survivor of a “dove release.” These releases don’t actually use doves, but instead use white homing pigeons, vulnerable birds with no survival skills, who in too many cases go astray and are injured by animals or vehicles, are killed by predators, or starve to death. Whenever you have the opportunity, please help these gentle and beautiful birds by educating others about the dangers of “dove releases.” Please take a moment to read this article; it provides more detailed information about the unhappy results of "dove releases." Did you know there is more than one way to support WBRT? Yes, you can donate shredding and newspaper, or perhaps put a little something on our Give A Little page, but have you ever thought that a purchase of an NZ Native Plant can help contribute to our cause too?! If you were looking to add some plants to your garden this summer, look no further than the new WBRT Nursery! Located in Ohariu Valley (PM us for address), we have a wide variety of plants available, including but not limited to: Rimu, Matai, Pohutukawa, Toro, Houpara, Titoki and Mountain Flax. We have a stall located at our facility which contains a selection of the plants available alongside an honesty box and EFTPOS machine. For more information, send us a private message, call 0508692473, or (if you are interested in bulk purchasing) email julie@583.co.nz Thanks for all your support! |
